Regression by Alejandro Amenabar
Star of the movie: Ethan Hawke, Emma Watson, David Thewlis, David Dencik
Ok! So the story is basically based on a ‘true-life event’ during the 80s when there was a chaos going on about the practice of Satanic Rituals in the USA. The movie revolves around three characters mainly, a detective (Ethan Hawke) and a psychoanalyst (David Thewlis) who are set to solve the rape case of a traumatized teen Angela (Emma Watson). It is directly shown that the rape was done for a ritual which is very much common in the Satanic practice.
In the movie, the girl, Angela runs away from her house and takes refuge in a church and charges her father for molesting her more than once. Her father, John accepts the accusation believing her daughter won’t lie even though he remembers anything of the entire situation. Detective Bruce takes charge of the case and tries to find out who and what truly was responsible for the molestation of Angela. He in the start did not believe in the Satanic Ritual but as the case started getting more intense, he started getting involved in it all the more. He slowly starts to believe in the Satanic Cult, but his Psychoanalyst accuses him of ‘not using his head’.
Bruce during the end falls into few circumstances where he understands what exactly was going on. Finally in the end, what one thinks doesn’t really happen. I will keep the end for you all to watch. It does become a bit slow but as they say, good for ‘One-time watch’.
A little sneak-peak won’t hurt!
